The music sessions at sunset are back to Devesa Park, in another edition of Devesa Sunset. Like last year, the initiative is part of the programme of summer socio-cultural animation Anima-te, and takes place every Friday in August (6, 13, 20 and 27), at 19h00. This year’s highlight goes to Luísa Sobral (13), Selma Uamusse (6), Bruno Pernadas (20) and B Fachada (27).
Selma Uamusse takes the stage on the first day of concerts, 6 August, to present her second album in her own name, "Liwoningo" (2020). In her solo work, the artist has explored the roots of her country of origin, using Mozambican rhythms and lyrics in native languages, with the use of traditional instruments such as timbila and mbira, combining everything with electronica, rock, afro-beat and experimental, always keeping as a common place the power of rhythm, language or African sounds. Before Selma Uamusse, Carlos César Trio takes the stage at 7pm, presenting his first solo project, where he explores the riches of Brazilian percussion, combined with the influence of jazz improvisation.
A week later, on 13 August, it is Luísa Sobral's turn to be heard on the Anima-Te stage. The artist, who began her artistic career in 2011 with the release of the album "The Cherry On My Cake", marks, in 2021, ten years of career with a tour that passes through the Parque da Devesa. Luísa Sobral, considered one of the most important composers and singers of the new generation of Portuguese musicians, in addition to her debut album, already has four more albums recorded - "There's a Flower in My Bedroom" (2013), "Lu-Pu-i-Pi-Sa-Pa" (2014), "Luísa" (2016), "Rosa" (2018) -, having been decorated by the President of the Republic, in 2018, together with her brother, Salvador Sobral, with the degree of "Commander da of the Order of Merit" for her success with "Amar Pelos Dois", the song with which Portugal achieved its first ever victory at the Eurovision Song Contest. Immediately before the Luísa Sobral concert, The Partisan Seed, one of Filipe Miranda's personal projects, will take the stage at 7 p.m. The Partisan Seed, one of Filipe Miranda's personal projects celebrating its 15th anniversary, will perform with a full band and make a retrospective of its career.
On the third day of Devesa Sunset, August 20, Bruno Pernadas presents his new album "Private Reasons" (2021), which marks his return to the editions after "How Can We Be Joyful in a World Full of Knowledge" (2014) and "Those Who Throw Objects at The Crocodiles Will Be Asked to Retrieve Them" (2016). This concert will be preceded by the performance of guitarist Manuel de Oliveira, who presents the work "Entre-Lugar" (2020), a record dedicated to his father and master, guitarist Aprígio Oliveira, which features tributes to José Afonso and Paco de Lucia. The concert starts at 7pm.
The closure of this year's edition of Devesa Sunset, on 27 August, is in charge of B Fachada, artistic name of Bernardo Fachada, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer dedicated to popular Portuguese music of the XXI century, who presents his latest album "Rapazes e Raposas" (2020). Before B Fachada, there is the performance of A Garota Não, at 19h00, a project by the singer-songwriter from Setúbal, Cátia Mazari Oliveira, whose debut album "Rua das Marimbas Nº 7" (2020), has influences ranging from Portuguese rap to American folk, Brazilian popular music and British pop.
