The Open Call for Ymotion, the Youth Film Festival promoted by the City Council of Famalicão, is taking place.
Young Portuguese filmmakers have until October 6th to apply for their short film to the eight categories of the festival, which according to its commissioner, film critic Rui Pedro Tendinha, is already the biggest prize in Portugal.
This year, and due to the current context caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ymotion will undergo some adjustments, but without ever losing its main objective: to reward the best that is done in Portugal in the area of youth cinema.
In all there will then be eight prizes awarded by the festival, with a natural highlight for the "Joaquim de Almeida Grand Award", worth 2500 euros, which will be awarded to the best short film in the competition.
Prizes will also be given in the categories of "Secondary Schools Award" and "Best Documentary Film Award", worth 750 euros, "Best Animation Short Film Award", worth 600 euros, "Audience Award", worth 350 euros, and prizes for "Best Representation", "Best Cinematography" and "Best Screenplay", worth 250 euros.
The works selected for the competition will be appreciated and evaluated by the jury of the festival, composed by Tiago R. Santos, screenwriter and film critic, director Luísa Sequeira, journalist of RTP and Antena 1, Tiago Fernando Alves, casting director Patrícia Vasconcelos, journalist of Público Samuel Silva, and director Pedro Cabeleira, winner of the Joaquim de Almeida Grand Award of the last edition of Ymotion.
About this new edition of Ymotion, the president of the jury, the screenwriter Tiago R. Santos, recalls that "the need is the mother of invention" and that "in view of the extraordinary circumstances we live in, it is necessary to reinvent what is necessary to continue to count on this platform that Ymotion has been of young cinema exhibition and support to creation in Portugal".
The final phase of the Ymotion will take place from 2nd to 7th November, with the awarding of the winners and with the exhibition "Novíssimo Cinema Português", by film critic Rui Pedro Tendinha. Promoted since 2015 by the Youth Department of Famalicão City Council, the Ymotion once again distinguishes the best short films produced by young people between the ages of 12 and 35. The short films should have a maximum duration of 20 minutes.
